Now that the kids are on Christmas vacation, we're trying to find fun and creative ways to keep them busy. Once we saw the bookmarks we just knew that they would also make FANTASTIC Christmas gifts for friends and family who love reading as much as we do. Take a peek! Bookworms of all stripes will love these bright place markers. They make sweet stocking stuffers -- and they're fun and easy for kids to create. Simply cut lengths of ribbon (ours are 12 to 14 inches long, to fit a standard-size hardcover book), then attach buttons to the ends using tacky glue or a glue gun. Shown here are just a few of the decorating options: sandwiching the ribbon's ends between two buttons; stacking smaller atop larger buttons; and grouping several small buttons in a pattern.
Tiddle a Wink
Our Button Skee-Ball game is an update of tiddlywinks. To make the target, use 2-inch-wide poster board rings 28, 21, 17, and 8 inches long, secured at the seams with double-sided tape. 
Attach printed point values (or simply write them on)and assemble the rings as shown, securing them with more double-sided tape. Cut out a felt launchpad. Players take turns using a large button to flip 10 small buttons toward the target. The player with the highest total score wins.
Jazz up a window
A button mosaic becomes a cheery sun catcher when it's sandwiched between layers of clear Con-Tact paper. To make one, cut out a square of Con-Tact paper, remove its backing, and lay it sticky-side up. (If you like, slide a drawing beneath the square as a guide.) Place buttons on the square to create a shape, leaving at least a 1-inch border on all sides. When you're done, cover the mosaic with a second Con-Tact paper square. Smooth the edges with a cotton swab and cut out the mosaic, leaving a -inch border on all sides. Stick your creation to a window with glue dots or tape.

Michael's Fall Wreath Workshop September 27!
Stop by your local Michaels for a FREE Fall Wreath Workshop. It is free with purchase of supplies. September 27th from 3pm-5pm. Purchase the supplies needed to make a fall wreath and they'll show you how to put it together! Bead Babies are the Peeeerfect indoor craft when playing outside is not an option!
In some parts of the country believe it or not, it is still a bit chilly and going outside for play is just not an option. Here in Chicago we get a lot of rain during the summer months so there are many days that playing inside is the way to go so we've learned to break out our craft boxes and get creative! Here's a great craft for both boys and girls (and parents too!) that will kill some time and is a lot of fun too! What's really cool about this project is that after everyone has put their little critters together, they can play with them until the skies clear! Wahoo! Enjoy!
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Painted Wooden Beads in Assorted Sizes and Colors
Felt Pipe Cleaner
Tacky Glue
Scissors
Time needed: About 1 to 2 Hours
Caterpillar: Apply a drop of glue to the end of a pipe cleaner and insert it into a large bead. For the head, position a bead so its holes look like eyes, then glue it to the first bead as shown. Slide 4 more beads onto the pipe cleaner and trim the excess, then remove the last bead and apply glue to the exposed end. Replace the last bead. Cut antennae from the felt and glue them behind the first bead.
Bunny: Choose 2 beads, one slightly larger than the other. With its holes positioned to look like eyes, glue the small bead over one of the holes in the larger one. Cut the ears, tail, and feet from felt and glue them in place. For stability, make sure the feet fit squarely beneath the bunny's body. 
Duck: Follow the directions for the bunny but swap a felt bill, feet, and wings for the ears, tail, and feet.
